Wine Reviews
If you love your wine the chances are you will be quite interested in reading a wide range of wine reviews. You may even consider buying certain bottles of wine if you read a review that is favorable to a particular winery or type of wine. But can these wine reviews really be trusted, or is it just one person’s point of view?
How much experience has this person got?
Some wine reviewers are very well known and have been in the business for years. Others are new to the business and don’t have the same level of experience as a result.
Obviously one person’s point of view on a specific wine is their own. But you should remember that experience does count for a lot. If someone has been reviewing various wines for twenty years or more for example, you can expect them to know what goes into a bottle of wine. You know they will be familiar with the whole tasting process and therefore they will give you a more accurate opinion of any bottle they taste.
Do they have a vested interest in promoting a particular type of wine?
This is probably a more common situation online, where wine reviews can form part of websites that are designed for affiliate purposes. For instance someone will review a bottle of wine favorably and then there will be a link at the bottom of the review so you can go through to the seller to buy some for yourself.
In this kind of situation you can see that they would benefit from reviewing a bottle of wine positively even if they didn’t actually like it. It always pays to read a review carefully before acting on it in any way.
How do you feel personally about the review – and more importantly, the wine?
Even if someone says a particular wine is the best thing they have ever tasted, you have to think about your own opinions as well. For example you may just have read a review for a stunning red wine, but if you don’t normally like red wine it would be silly to buy a bottle on the strength of what someone else thinks.
As with everything else in life, some reviews are honest and others are not as much. But in reality it all depends on what YOU think. You could research a particular wine and find lots of wonderful reviews for it, and you may still not like it yourself.
The best bet is to consider what you look for in a wine and what you like to taste. You can then read reviews to come up with some possibilities for new wines to try. This will help you to get the best out of every review you read, as you will start to look for elements that click with you.
Wine Reviews
Wine reviews are not always to be trusted, but most of them are just fine. The essential thing to remember is that one review is written by one person – and you are still allowed to disagree with them – Wine Reviews.
